After that he put his hands
again upon his eyes, and made him look up: and he was restored, and saw every
man clearly. (Mark 8.25)
Have you been for an eye test recently? The Lord Jesus is
better than any optician. As I read through the Gospels, it is interesting to
see how He uses different treatments to heal blind people. Today’s man has two
eye tests. He is healed gradually not immediately.
After a first touch, the Lord gave the man a quick test. People
looked like walking trees! This was better than seeing nothing at all – the
Lord always improves things! But it was far from perfect!
Was He going to leave
the man like this? Certainly not! He didn’t do half-finished jobs! Like Boaz (check
out Ruth 3.18) the Lord didn’t give up till He had sorted everything out. So after
the Lord’s second touch, He gave the man another eye test. At last he could see
clearly. If he went to the opticians he could have read all the impossibly tiny
letters at the bottom!
In the same way, He has started a good work in me (check out
Phil 1.6). On the day He saved me, He made me ready for heaven. Then He began
to change my character to make me like Him. It’s a slow process that goes on from
day by day. Sometimes God spends 1000 years of attention on a single day. Eventually
He will finish His work. He will present me faultless in heaven. He’ll be
joyful, I’ll be joyful, and other Christians will be joyful too! I must be
patient and let the Lord work in my life. Even if the bottom line of the
spiritual eye-test seems a blur at the moment, one day everything will be
crystal clear!
