They that did eat of the loaves were about five thousand men.
(Mark 6.44)
Every day with the Lord Jesus is an adventure. The disciples
soon discovered this fact as they spent time with Him. On this busy day, the
Lord was teaching, healing, feeding, praying and saving. Five wonderful
actions! Many people think it is boring being a Christian. Not true! Living
with the Lord Jesus is always an exciting experience!
Teaching is when He talks to me about God. The Lord
Jesus is the best teacher. He is the only one who knows God fully since He came
from God. He is the only one who describes God simply enough for me to
understand. I need to pay full attention in this teacher’s lessons!
Praying is when He talks to God about me. It is
comforting to know that the Lord is my great high priest. He still looks out
for me in heaven and has conversations with the Father about me.
Healing deals with extreme need. The Lord Jesus is
powerful enough to meet my deepest needs. He sorted out my deepest need of all,
when He died to pay the price for my sins.
Feeding deals with ordinary need. He cares enough to meet my most basic needs.
So I can pray words like, “Give us this day our daily bread.” As I read the
Sermon on the Mount (Matthew 5-7) I discover He has promised to give me food
and clothes and a house to live in for as long as I’m here.
Saving is the most amazing thing He does. He saved
Peter from drowning in the stormy sea. He has saved me from everlasting
destruction. So today I want to be like Peter – holding the Saviour’s hand and
enjoying a unique journey with Him.
