In every thing give thanks –
1 Thessalonians 5. 18
Thankfulness is not dependant
on our present circumstances. How will you react to things that happen to you
today? Will you be thankful?
When Paul wrote to the church in Thessalonica he
was aware that the believers had been persecuted after they had been saved.
Life had become very tough for them. Paul had also suffered as a result of his
visit to their city.
In light of this, today’s verse makes a seemingly impossible
demand. How can a person facing suffering be thankful?
The answer can be found
in each chapter of First Thessalonians. In chapter one there is the promise of
joy, glory in chapter two, comfort in chapter three, Christ’s coming in chapter
four and grace in chapter five.
‘Thou hast taught me to say,
it is well, it is well with my soul’
