A religious terrorist becomes a Christian - Acts 9

Daily Bible Reading

Acts 9.1-31

Verse for the Day

Acts 9.20 “Immediately he preached the Christ in the synagogues, that he is the Son of God”

I am sure there are some people who you think could never become a Christian. When you see them you try to get out of the way. They laugh at you and make you feel silly. In a previous post we thought about how Christians behave when things like this happen.

Before I go any further there is something I should explain. In the New Testament part of the Bible you will read about a man called Saul and a man called Paul. It’s the same person but they have two different names. Maybe you have two names as well. The man we read about today is called Saul. After he became a Christian he became known as Paul. You can read about it in Acts 13. Have a look to see if you can spot the verse where he is called by both names.

We discovered the other day that Saul hated Christians and did horrible things to them. How on earth did he end up as a Christian? There is only one answer to that! God jumped right into his life and stopped him dead. Well not quite dead but you might have thought he was if you had been there. As he travelled to Damascus he got such a shock. All of a sudden Saul was blinded by a light brighter than the sun. What was happening? He heard someone asking why Saul was hurting him. Saul shouted ‘Who are you Lord?’ He was amazed to hear Jesus reply from heaven – ‘I am Jesus’. Suddenly he knew. Jesus was alive. He was God’s Son. He could be forgiven for all he had done.

We can all be forgiven if we say sorry to God. If someone as bad as Saul could be forgiven we all can. But will you say sorry and trust Jesus for forgiveness if you have not asked him yet?

Suggested Prayer

Dear God, Help me to remember that God is talking to people in their hearts even when they don’t seem to be listening.

I appreciate you reading this blog post.
