Going to Pray - Acts 4

Suggested Bible Reading - Acts 4. 23-31

Acts 4. 24 

‘And when they heard it, they lifted their voices together to God’

Can I tell you a secret? Promise not to tell anyone? Well here it is – when I was a boy I didn't like going to the church prayer meeting. It seemed quite boring to spend time sitting quiet. What was the point of meeting other people if you couldn't talk to them? When I grew up I discovered that the prayer meeting could be exciting! 

This was when I realised that prayer meetings are times when we speak to God.

In our passage today some of the Christians had got into trouble. People were being bad to them because they loved the Lord Jesus. They decided that the best thing to do was to pray about it. That was a good plan. If you are in trouble talk to God and listen to what He has to say. We should have an easier time listening to God than they did because we can hear what He wants to say to us when we read the bible.

 Let’s listen again to their prayers - we might pick up some tips about praying! Instead of moaning about what had gone wrong they told God about it. That’s a good idea! Listen one more time. In their prayer meeting everyone is getting on really well with each other. They are all praying and no one is arguing. They also quote from the Bible when they are praying. I think that they must have read it a lot. It’s hard work remembering what the bible says. I think that they must have practiced, do you?

Can you hear them tell God that they know that He is always in control? They ask Him to help them to be brave and strong.

 God answered their prayers. That’s wonderful as He still answers our prayers today when we pray.

Dear God, help me to remember to pray every day.
